Cool Places to Cool Down this Summer

You’d be surprised how close some of the best water parks in Virginia are! No need to drive hours to spend a day floating down a lazy river, these parks are all within a short drive in Prince William & Manassas. With temperatures rising and kids fresh out of school for the summer, we’ve helped sort through your best bets for summer fun:

With a new look,Signal Bay Waterpark opened for the 2015 season with a number of new upgrades. The park sits on top of Signal Hill, with beautiful views of the surrounding area. It’s designed for families, especially those with small children who are looking for a day trip adventure nearby. The park features a zero depth entry pool, and numerous water cannons and fountains for kids to enjoy. The lazy river winds around the entire park, so you can just relax in a tube as you wade past the other rides. The park even has a pirate ship in the pool, for the kids to climb into, dump water out of, and shoot water cannons, too. For older kids and thrill seekers, Signal Bay also has six tube rides. Visitors can easily make it a full day trip- with concessions on site, and many lounge chairs and shaded picnic areas to enjoy lunch or dinner.

Located nearby in Dale City, Waterworks Waterpark (in Andrew Leitch Park) is a more intimate pool setting. This park’s main attraction is their two-story water slide, which has double tubes for the family to race against each other. A designated kiddie area provides younger kids with a safe and fun environment to play while older siblings explore the rest of the park, such as their lily pad and obstacle area. If you’re looking to stay for lunch or dinner, grab a quick bite at their snack bar or bring your own meal, may be enjoyed in one of the picnic areas right outside of the water park.

The largest waterpark in Northern Virginia, SplashDown Waterpark is a local favorite during the summertime because of the various slides, pools, and activities. There are slides for all ages: two 4-story slides, two 2-story slides, two Fast Cannon Waterslides for the thrill seekers, and kiddie slides for the little ones. The park is sprinkled with fountains to cool off and run around in, or visit The Lagoon if you want to just wade in the water. Splash Down is also outlined by a lazy river, which runs along the entire park. They even have a beach area -complete with sand! - to soak in the sun. With plenty of affordable concessions, you won’t need to leave the park to get food, which gives you more play time. Plan to spend an entire day here; there’s so much to do!
