Brew Tour; Exploring the Craft Beer Scene
As travelers continue to seek unique experiences, craft breweries have grown to become hot destinations for those wanting to try local flavors. In Prince William & Manassas, three craft breweries have emerged that are taking over the brewery scene and introducing new beers to the market. While you’re visiting us, definitely make sure to try a pint or two at these hot spots:
Tin Cannon Brewing Company is the first nano-brewery in Gainesville and has both a brewing room and taproom. Founded by friends Aaron Ludwig and John Hilkert, these two are constantly push style guidelines by experimenting with traditional methods. The name is an ode to Prince William & Manassas’ Civil War heritage and a reference to ‘tin cans’, the historic name for beer cans. They take a culinary approach to their craft brewing- ingredients are tested against each other to find the best contrasts and complements. All the beer is made in house at the brewery and served in the adjoining taproom. They often have 6-9 beers on tap, which can be sampled in flights and pints. Some of the most popular flavors include VA Blonde, Unkel Dunkle, Vaughn’s PB, and Busted Pipe. Seasonal flavors and new ‘Experimental’ flavors will also test your taste buds.
BadWolf Brewing Company in Manassas offers a homey experience for tasters. Inspired by a trip to Germany, Jeremy and Sarah Meyers founded the family owned brewery to share their love of craft beer. The one barrel brewery makes for an exciting menu that is continually changing as they create new flavors that can be sampled in the taproom. Free popcorn complements the local brews! A range of ales, stouts, porters, as well as seasonal and experiments are often on tap, including Oatmeal Stout, Dux Pale, and Jay’s. Check back often- they’re always brewing something new!
Founded by a group of Veterans, Heritage Brewing Co. is making a splash in the craft beer scene. Established in 2013, the microbrewery has grown from a few barrels to a 20 barrel brewery and taproom. Walking into the room, you’ll experience the Americana inspiration everywhere: from the large American flag that hangs behind the barrels to the bar décor that greets visitors- this is truly a pint of patriotism at its finest. The beer is made from fresh and local ingredients, and are at least 90% organic. Their famous flagships include the American Expedition, The Teddy, Freedom isn’t Free, Revolution, and King’s Mountain, but they are continually bringing out new and seasonal beers to try.
