Sidewalks to Main Street
DAY ONE: Begin with a trip to Potomac Mills, Virginia’s largest outlet mall, featuring more than 220 shops and eateries. The indoor outlet mall recently opened a new Fashion District complete with upscale brands including Coach Factory, Last Call by Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH. Shopping with children? Let them run around at Potomac Mills’ Virginia-themed children’s play area. Have lunch at Bahama Breeze or the Cheesecake Factory. Just a quick drive down the road is Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. Stop in Charming Charlie for the perfect piece of jewelry or REI if you are looking to stock-up on active-wear.
DAY TWO: Switch from bargain stores to boutiques in Historic Occoquan. One of Northern Virginia’s best kept secrets, this quaint town along the Occoquan River features an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants that feature home accessories, antiques and clothes. Dine al fresco at Madigan’s Waterfront, sample beers at the European bistro Cock & Bowl or enjoy some vino at Bottle Stop. Want a break from the stores? Treat yourself to a massage at Dansk Day Spa. Continue antiquing in Historic Downtown Manassas- a once sleepy railroad town that has maintained its historic charm. Stroll streets lined with specialty shops or arrange a special tea at The Things I Love’s tea room. Located in the shop’s garden room, teas are offered several times a month or visitors can call ahead to arrange an event complete with sandwiches, scones and tea. Historic Downtown Manassas offers a variety of special events year-round and a seasonal farmer’s market, which features fresh produce, breads and more.
